Dear Children and Youth Volunteers,

 

We are thankful that you have expressed an interest to serve as a volunteer with an OEPC Youth or Children program. OEPC is dedicated to protecting our children and youth and requires that all volunteers who are responsible for the welfare of a child or had direct contact with children and youth, must complete a screening, background checks and training every 5 years.  

 

Please follow the next steps in order to become a OEPC Volunteer:

  • A)   Read the OEPC Handbook and complete the Child Protection Form
  • B)   Complete and submit the OEPC Application Form (Add Link)

  • C)   Sign and submit the Disclosure Statement Form  (Add link)
  • D)   Request the Pennsylvania Child Abuser History Clearance
  • Create an “Individual Account” in order to receive and print your clearance check online. You have to first create a Keystone ID.
  • This is a free service for volunteers. Make sure to select for “Purpose” the Volunteer option.  (add link: www.compass.state.pa.us/CWIS)
  • E)    Federal Criminal History Report from the FBI  (only if you have not resided in PA in the past 10 years)

Follow the next steps:

  • a)    Select state Pennsylvania
  • b)    Select Digital Fingerprinting
  • c)     Use Service Code   1KG6ZJ (Volunteer)  Cost is $26.25 (subject to change)
  • d)    Select Schedule or Manage an Appointment
  • e)    Location -When selecting closet location near you look for those that do FBI fingerprinting (note:  not all sites do the fingerprinting – some do TSA etc.). 
  • 2)    Go and have Fingerprinting done.   Make sure to bring with you the required documents (List on website).   Note: No cash or personal checks accepted.  They do accept Money Orders, Debit and Credits Cards

3)    Reimbursement.  Keep receipt for fingerprinting for reimbursement.  Complete an OEPC check reimbursement form.  Attach receipt and give it to Church Administrator.

4)    Results – will be mailed to you in 2-3 weeks.  Please send a copy of the results to the church office.

  • F)    Mandated Reporter Training (OPTIONAL)

As of 2014, PA laws state that all employees and volunteers that will be working with children and youth will be considered Mandated Reporters. OEPC strongly encourages all volunteers to take the training in order to be understand what you are required to do by law. There is a free online training class, www.reportabusepa.pitt.edu, that will cover topics including, what is a mandated reporter, how to report abuse, and what is child abuse.  

When you complete the training, please print the certificate and give a copy to the church office.
